My Desk Setup for Focused, Productive Days

Workaholic is definitely not how I’d define myself — but I can’t call myself lazy either. Work feeds me when there’s a bright idea or a project; it keeps me going despite weekends and holidays.

My comfortable working setup usually consists of a laptop and two monitors, and it gets quite challenging for me when I don’t have access to those conditions.

I discovered the height-adjustable desk a couple of years ago and have been using it ever since. It lets you keep standing while you work, which in my opinion adds some physical activity to your daily flow. Sometimes I even use an inflatable balance cushion to keep my body busy while standing at the desk.

In my country, power cuts happen from time to time, so my deliberate choice was a desk with a manual crank. But that was a personal choice dictated by circumstances. If you think cranking by hand isn’t for you, there are plenty of great powered desks — you tap a button and it moves. The FlexiSpot E7 is the one most people land on: stable, quiet, and built to last. If you want the premium reference with the longest warranty, the Uplift V2 is the other name that comes up again and again. Most powered desks keep a manual option as backup anyway.

Two monitors and a laptop

Being able to spread my work across multiple monitors is the thing I’d miss most. For me it’s crucial to keep an eye on a few sources of information all at once, and going back to a single screen always feels off.

Nothing fancy or giant curved setups needed. A pair of solid 24–27″ monitors and a simple laptop are enough. A basic laptop stand to bring the screen up to eye level helps too — getting the height right is what saves your neck by the end of the day.

A single desk lamp

I’m not a big fan of bright light — especially artificial light — and I’m always trying to get a dimmer atmosphere. So a single good desk lamp is far more my kind of thing. Softer and calmer, in my opinion.

It’s that simple

Your morning sets the tone. Your desk helps you stay productive. It’s that simple.
